Last week I was given a sip of a Peanut Butter Smoothie that a girlfriend had picked up from a healthy cafe. As I sipped on that glorious creation (going back for more... 4 times as it happens!), I remarked that I couldn't believe that I'd never created a peanut butter smoothie for my own website, particularly in light of my adoration of PB itself (crunchy, only ever crunchy). So it was that I committed to getting into my kitchen to make it happen.
It also happens that I've been trialling a beautiful new Protein-Superfood blend by Rootz Nutrition* - so I figured I now had two reasons to whack the apron on and create a heavenly smoothie.
But first a word on this superfood blend that also happens to be (quite subtly) chocolate banana in flavour.
Now, it goes without saying that I err on the side of "if you can't grow it in your backyard don't eat it." so if truth be known I tend to be putting most protein powders back on the shelf. This one however, sings to a different tune.
The mix of ingredients is as real as it gets:
- Quality protein from egg white, sacha inchi (a mountain nut grown in Peru... had to check that one myself!) and hemp
- Some serious super supps - chia seeds, flax seeds, maca root, bee pollen, acai, goji berries and royal jelly
- Wholefoods - coconut, banana and blueberry, and
- The green goodness of spirulina, chlorella, kale, spinach and broccoli.
To top it off, the only flavouring is from all-natural ingredients - natural chocolate and vanilla extracts, stevia leaf, cinnamon and sea salt.
And that, my friends, is it. No hidden nasties. It's a great base to take your smoothie to the next level (and the perfect post-workout fuel). I mean, just look at this dreamy creation.
Serves 2
2 bananas
1 cup milk (I used coconut, but nut milks would be yum!)
3 heaped tablespoons 100% natural peanut butter
2 large tablespoons yoghurt (I used coconut)
2-3 handfuls of ice
1-2 large scoops Rootz Paleo Protein-Superfood*
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon vanilla powder or 1/2 teaspoon essence
Optional (for extra nutritional punch): 2 large handfuls of organic spinach (see green tinged smoothie below).
Throw all of the ingredients together in a high powered blender, blend until super smooth and consume with the pleasure I know you'll be feeling.
