As many of you know I recently moved house. Well actually, that's not strictly true; I packed up and stored one home whilst I wait for the next one to become available. The upside is I now have a week to allow my hands and nails time to recover (see the now manicured nails below).
The other downside of such an upheaval is the knock on effect it can have on our diet. It's easy to get reliant on take away food when we're pushed for time, or to frequent cafes and restaurants (I could rightly be considered a cafe tart of late). Unfortunately it often means we're probably not enjoying the nutrient rich foods we need most during stressful periods in our lives.
It certainly pays to be organised; batch cooking in preparation and nutrient rich options on hand to whiz up meals and snacks on the go - smoothies full to the brim with goodness, healthy bliss balls to tide us over between meals.
It just so happens that last week WelleCo came to the rescue making it far easier for me to make simple, healthy choices on the run. Armed with their amazing SUPER ELIXIR Alkalising Formula (an all-natural plant based wholefood powder of super greens and 45 carefully selected ingredients) and their plant based Nourishing Protein I've become the on-the-go smoothie queen.
If truth be known, I've also become a chocolate brownie protein ball addict (yep, I'm confident they're that good).
It's all thanks to WelleCo's Chocolate Nourishing Protein that I decided to create these chocolate brownie protein balls, bliss balls that are fudgey in consistency with the pertinent crunch of walnuts and the richness of raw cacao. The organic pea and brown rice protein (complete with all 9 essential amino acids to boost energy, metabolism and balance blood sugar levels) ensures I'm well sustained from one meal to the next.
Please try them. Just do yourself a favour and don't make them before eating lunch, as I did.
Makes 12-14 balls.
1 heaped cup of walnuts + 2 heaped handfuls
10 medjool dates
2 heaped scoops THE SUPER ELIXIR Chocolate Nourishing Protein
3 tablespoons raw cacao
1 good pinch of sea salt
Roughly chop your two heaped handfuls of nuts.
Into your food processor add all ingredients, leaving the chopped nuts aside. Process until the mixture is well combined and the oils start to release from the nuts. It should be sticky enough to roll into balls. Removing the mixture from the food processor, stir through half of the chopped walnuts - this will add a beautiful texture to your bliss balls. Now roll the balls in the rest of your chopped nuts, pressing them firmly in your hands as you go.
Best kept refrigerated in an airtight container.
