Home made fruit gummies

I've a wonderful, new 'problem' in my life; I now reside in a home with a lemon tree - one that actually fruits. Thank you, thank you universe for your yellow balls of joy.

It got me thinking about ways in which I can get the very most out of my lemon supply - (the entire fruit, not just the juice), in ways that would be really healthful for me. That thinking saw me arrive at these delicious gummies that not only contain the juice of whole, organic lemons, but pack an almighty nutritional punch. This is because of the second hero ingredient, grass fed gelatin.

So a word on gelatin.

I choose to purchase Great Lakes Unflavoured Gelatin. It's freely available in health food stores and online. Gelatin is essentially cooked collagen, from the bones and connective tissues of animals. This powder is a wonderful daily addition to your diet and can be easily added to smoothies, juices and you guessed it - gummies!

Gelatin is said to improve your gut health and digestion, lower joint pain, improve sleep quality and lift mood.

Today's recipe gives you reason to add it to your diet, if not already. I promise you it's not only ridiculously simple, but if you find a fruit combo the kids love it'll soon replace the less healthful, yet much loved jubes. That in my opinion is a huge WIN.

A couple of notes on the recipe to get you started.
1. Don't be fooled by the sweetness of the wet mixture. For some reason it tastes far sweeter when runny than when it comes out of the freezer.
2. I juiced the entire lemons for the lemon recipe. This creates quite a tart, slightly bitter gummy that I love, but may not be to the satisfaction of all so by all means peel your lemons
3. Try this recipe with any fruit - berries, apples, mangos, go nuts!
4. ONLY use 100% pure essential oils in your cooking. I use the doTERRA range because of their potency and purity. You can purchase them via me retail or wholesale via this link. There is a little more information about the most cost effective way to do this at the foot of the post.

Homemade fruit gummies

Lemon and Wild Orange Gummies

2/3 cup juiced lemons
6 tablespoons grass fed gelatin
4-6 tablespoons raw honey (or pure maple syrup)
8 drops pure wild orange essential oil (optional)
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric

Put all ingredients bar the pure essential oil into a small pot and heat gently, stirring as it goes until all the gelatin lumps disappear. This could take anywhere from 2-5 minutes so be patient. Try not to let the mixture boil to retain the full benefits of all the ingredients. Once it is a runny, smooth consistency, remove from the heat and add your drops of wild orange oil. Taste. Add more sweetener or essential oil if you think necessary.

Pour into a silicon tray or shapes or into a slice tin. Pop them in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Remove and store in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks.

Orange, Cinnamon and Clove Gummies

2/3 cup juiced oranges
6 tablespoons grass fed gelatin
4-6 tablespoons raw honey (or pure maple syrup)
2 drops of pure clove essential oil (optional)
1 drop pure cinnamon essential oil (optional)

Method as above.

And that my friends is it! Scrummy gummies for allll of the family! Please let me know what you think! If you're after another gelatin inspired recipe, give this Summer Fruits and Creamy Coconut Panna Cotta a go.
